Introduction To Northern Tuli Game Reserve

The Northern Tuli Game Reserve, a safari wilderness block that was formally established in 1964 is located at the historic site connecting the country with its neighbours Zimbabwe and South Africa at the eastern most part of Botswana. This is where the Shashe and the Limpopo Rivers meet. The Tuli Game Reserve is a long strip of land defining the Southeastern borders of Botswana with an area of 78000 hectares that are shared by both local communities and private land owners. The reserve is a significant portion of the planned Greater Mapungubwe Trans Frontier Conservation Area. The Northeast Tuli Game Reserve is an African safari area divided into several private concessions. These concessions include Mashatu, Nitani and Tuli Lodge Game Reserves. It is recognized as one of Southern Africa's largest privately owned game reserves home to over 20000 animals. Tuli is a scenic Africa safari reserve dominated by sandstone hills and rock formations with a system of riverbeds, riverine forests, grasslands and marshes. It is dubbed as the The Land of Giants due to the wildlife giants that roam its wilderness, enormous Baobab and Mashatu trees and rocky protrusions all sizes of stones and pebbles coupled with the red sand spread all over the place, a striking feature of Tuli that is not found in any other part of Botswana. Northern Tuli Game Reserve possess an intriguing history coupled with enticing Solomon’s Wall, Mapungubwe Hill and the Motlhabaneng, a site for the ancient rock paintings of the San Bushmen. The presence of paintings symbolizes the ancient inhabitants of the area thousands of centuries ago. The traces of ancient civilization attributed to the Mapungubwe era in 1200-1270 AD dominate the reserve. This makes it an appropriate destination for an African safari combined with a cultural and historic element.

  • Raza Visram at AfricanMecca planned the most amazing trip for my friend and I. I wanted to go to 4 countries in 15 days and he made it happen. It was an aggressive itinerary and Raza planned it so well, that the transitions were seamless. The last leg of the trip was Botswana for another Safari and we stayed at the most beautiful lodge. The excitement in seeing the animals so closely is indescribable.

  • Our Botswana safari was FANTASTIC! It truly was a luxury, but rustic enough, safari. We really loved our trip! We saw everything here. From lions to leopards to elephants to buffalos. Our guide, Rams was truly amazing. He really knew his stuff! While on the bush walks we encountered zebras, warthogs and much more. Thanks for your help! We will definitely do another trip within a year.
