OVERVIEW ON STANLEY’S CAMP IN OKAVANGO DELTA

Stanley’s Camp is the home of the unique elephant interaction activity in partnership with the Living with Elephants foundation. The camp is built on a 260,000 acre private concession in the renowned Okavango Delta and is centred around a large sitting and dining area which affords magnificent views over the floodplains. Watch as big game march past, perhaps even catch a glimpse of the rare wild dog. Each of the eight canvas tents at Stanley’s Camp is individually designed but all have a classic and understated elegance that harks back to the explorers of the nineteenth century. Large wooden decks provide private areas for guests to relax in hammocks or enjoy pre-dinner cocktails. This intimate camp is gathered around a large sitting and dining area which affords magnificent views over the floodplains of the Okavango Delta. From the swimming pool, watch giraffe and other plains game march across the savannah. You might even catch a glimpse of rare wild dogs stalking the plains. This is one of the best places in the world for seeing buffalo in large numbers, with herds often exceeding 2,000.

Location Of Stanley’s Camp

Located on a vast private concession bordering the Moremi Game Reserve, Stanley’s Camp is located on the southern tip of Chief’s Island. This private community concession is by definition in a seasonal delta and the floodwaters usually arrive around June. Stanley’s has its own private airstrip which is located approximately 20 minutes from the camp. The camp is accessible by air from Maun (15 minutes), Kasane (1 hour 30 minutes) and all other delta camps.

Safari Experience At Stanley’s Camp

The game viewing around camp is thrilling. Water crossings are part of the adventure and watching zebra standing belly-deep grazing is a sight to see! Because Stanley’s Camp is set in a private concession, there is the opportunity to venture out after dark on night game drives to see the nocturnal animals that live here including bush baby, hyena and leopard. Guests can also explore the bush on foot with a walking safari. Stanley’s Camp and non-profit charity Living With Elephants invite you to explore Africa from an elephant’s perspective. Meet and interact with Jabu, Thembi and Morula, a trio of semi-habituated orphaned elephants, while walking in their gigantic and silent footsteps though the African wilderness. Exclusive to guests at Baines’ Camp and Stanley’s Camp, this is a truly uplifting experience.
