BOTSWANA LOCATION & GEOGRAPHY
Botswana is a landlocked country in the Southern African region, with a total area of 581730 sq. km of which land area covers 566730 sq. km, comparable in size to the U.S. state of Texas, France or Kenya. Botswana is bordered on the south and southeast by South Africa; the west and north by Namibia and; the east by Zimbabwe. The northern border with Zambia is imprecisely defined with a maximum estimate of a few hundred meters. With an arid climate, Botswana’s terrain is mostly flat to gently rolling tableland with the lowest point at the intersection of Limpopo and Shashe Rivers, at an elevation of 513 meters. Some hilly portions exist where mining is done with the highest point at Monalanong Hill, at an elevation of 1494 meters. Seventy percent of the country’s land area is part of the Kalahari Desert and the Okavango Delta, the world’s largest inland delta is found in the northwest.
